The same thing happens to dishclothes, so IT IS OK to keep your favorite sponges for dishes. I'm going to share with you a way to sanitize that sponge, and clean your microwave, with absolutely no chemicals!!

Many options to clean your favorite sponge, toss in the wash (and have it stuck to your favorite shirt) or toss in the dishwasher. However for sanitizing, simply toss in the microwave. Yes, the microwave. But first, make sure it is good and wet. Set microwave to high, and turn on for 2 minutes. Once finished, carefully remove. IT WILL BE SUPER HOT, so be careful! Now take a clean cloth or paper towels and wipe the interior of the microwave down. Done and Done.

Easy as pushing a couple of buttons!

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

How to make dryer sachets

Dryer sheets are loaded with chemicals which makes them really bad news, especially for those who suffer with allergies or sensitivities to scents. Yes, they leave your laundry smelling nice, but only by coating your items toxins and perfumes, which could be just just about anything from a long list of chemicals, some of which can be detrimental to your and your families health. Did you know the term “fragrance” is totally unregulated, meaning that manufacturers don’t
have to disclose which chemicals they are using. Umm, no thank you, I'll pass!

Instead of scenting your clothes with all those chemicals, try natural herbs. Lavender seems to be a favorite of most folks, but don't be afraid to try different ones. Lemon grass, mint, roses, and citrus varieties will make a wonderful sachet. It's also a great time to start your own little herb garden with just a few pots and good soil. Don't be afraid to play around with our scents until you find the one that you love. For making the sachets, you’ll
need fabric (scrap, or whatever you have lying around), dried herbs,
sewing machine or hand stich.

<radeditorformatted_1><radeditorformatted_2>
<radeditorformatted_3></radeditorformatted_3></radeditorformatted_2></radeditorformatted_1>

Cut a piece of fabric
to 11″ x 4.5″, fold and iron in half, right sides together.

Use your sewing
machine or hand stich tightly all the way around the folded fabric,

leaving a 2″ gap so that you can flip it right side out and stuff it.

Stuff your sachet
with 1 1/2 cups of the dried herbs of your choice.

Tuck in the
unfinished opening, stitch it closed, and you’re ready to toss your

new sachet
in the dryer!

Make them re-usable by stitching velcro on one side and simply refill as needed. Get fancy and creative with the sachets and
give as gifts!

Using a rating system from team leaders and client feedback is how we come to the tough decision each month.

This month our Super Squeaker award goes to Candice. She has been with us since September of 2011 and has proven herself more than worthy of Super Squeaker status. She graces us with her humor, big heart, and hard work every day. Way to go Candice!

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

organized in 20 minutes or less

Wow, you all really rock with the organizing! Are you starting to feel lighter just having the clutter gone? "Keeping it that way" is going to be the hardest part, do this process with a friend and hold each other accountable until the keeping it that way becomes a habit.

Ever walk into you're closet and can't find what you want? Shoes all over the place, clothes from 10 years ago still hanging on same hangers? Well my friend, it is past time to clean it out!

I hear you already, "there is no way to do a closet in 20 minutes or less!". If you're like me, jamming and hiding items in the closet until they can be dealt with later is how I roll. For the larger or really jammed up closets, we will tackle sections at a time, keeping a timer handy and working for 20 minutes or so at a time.

Purchase some inexpensive baskets, pretty bins and drawer dividers to contain those extra items.

Get creative with the organizing items, anything from utensil dividers for the kitchen to plain cardboard boxes can be used. Visit the kitchen section of the store, ton's of great storage and organizing items in there that are awesome for closets as well. Vacuum seal bags are absolutely awesome for those not used often items, grab a couple of hooks and coat hangers while there.

Take a deep breath, now exhale and let's get started!

Grab those bins and cleaning solution, the timer and don't forget the vacuum cleaner.

Starting with the uppermost shelf, go ahead and remove everything. If you're on a step ladder, please be careful! Toss (or gently place) those removed items in another area for sorting.

Now gently clean the shelve itself, the walls around the shelve. Vacuum or wipe any cobwebs off ceiling immediately above. Don't want to put items back on a dusty, dirty closet now do we?

Quick sort of items removed, put back in the closet only the things that should belong there. Quick sort means don't sit and think about what you're putting back or giving away. Put not used often items like extra blankets, coats and such in the vacuum seal bags. Remember, quick is the name of the game! Still undecided about certain items, just put in another bin for deciding later.

Move on to the next shelf or hanging rack until closet is done. In an average size home, the closets can be organized in a week of working 20 minutes a day, so keep going! Remember the more you remove the easier getting dressed and finding things becomes.

Next week let's tackle those extra storage places like the basements and attics!

                  Hints

*Baskets or bins are great for folded items, small items, or items not used often.

*Hooks and coat racks are great for belts, scarfs, robes and jewelery.

*Larger bins are awesome for shoes, giveaway items

*Add more shelves or racks to those odd corners some closets have

*Small spaces with limited storage ~ only keep seasonal clothing, store the rest

*Organize items by color or season ~ all black belts on one hook, short sleeve shirts grouped by color.

**keep it that way tip**

How many items have been in the closet and not used in over 2 years? Honestly, if it hasn't been used in 2 years it probably won't be and out it should go!

The hardest part of organizing is keeping it that way when are all so busy! The easiest I've found is to have a dedicated "deal with later" basket (just like the one we have in the kitchen) for those quick put away's. Time is limited in the morning and to often we put something on only to change into something different. Throw those items in the "deal with it later" basket. Once a week, that basket must be dealt with and items put in their proper homes.

Ever put something on that you haven't worn in a while only to discover it looks horrid or doesn't fit? Have a dedicated "giveaway" basket for putting those items in. Once a month or so, take those items to a local charity.

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

organized in 20 minutes or less

Yes, it can happen and it is possible! It's a new year, (not to mention organizational items are on sale) why not start it off with getting organized? Most areas can be completed in 20 minutes or less, of course, larger areas will need slightly more time. Who's with me? Come on folks, we can do this!

Each week I'll post a new area to organize in 20 minutes or less until we have covered all the important areas. Each post will have a "keep it that way" tips at the end, along the way I even share some of my all time favorite, never posted, guard with life, time saving tips!

Ready? Hold on, get ready first, run to the store and grab some bins for larger storage items, get some small drawer organizers, and grab some trash bags. You may want to pick up a new calendar and a write & wipe board. Take a quick before picture of the clutter you are about tackle, take another after picture of the clutter dragon you have slain. Share those with us, those pics can be inspiration to help others get started.

Got it? Good, now we are ready!

Day 1: get that pantry. Pull everything out, do a quick clean of walls, shelves, and floor with a mild cleaner, we recommend vinegar and water, it will help to get rid of those weird smells pantries can have. Now in 20 minutes or less, put items back. Sort items to give to local food bank and throw away expired items as putting them back.

Use a small container to hold those small packages all in one place. Create a family message center by hanging a new calendar on back side of door with a write & wipe board for important messages.

Step back, admire your work! Doesn't it feel great?

**keep it that way tip**

A little trick to keeping the pantry organized is keeping items of the same in same area. Example, canned beans with other canned beans, pasta with dry goods, baking with baking. Keep the most used items at eye level and overstock/less used items on upper or lower shelves.

**time saver tip**

When buying items at grocery store, bag items by where it goes in your pantry. All canned goods in same bag, pasta in same bag, etc. When unloading, place bag on shelf it goes in, then put away. Use both hands when putting away, stacking as much as possible. Or if you're more like me and prefer to call them Life Changing Quotes. For us, it's simple, and we do love simple! I use a Quote as my daily inspiration, this year it's "You will never know how far you can fly until you spread your wings". It's on our motivation board for the crew to see daily, and even on a wall plaque next to my coffee maker at home. I can hear you now, that has absolutely nothing to do with cleaning! It's all in your point of view. One of the reasons this quote is so great is because it can applied to just about all aspects of our lives, from work, to family, even to our hobbies!

What would be your Life Changing Quote of the year?

Sure, I'll get back to posting cleaning tips again here soon, but there is soo much more to life than just cleaning! Put the basket in a closet out of sight. Once a week, grab that same basket and put items in their proper places.

Do a quick wipe down of kitchen surfaces. No detail here, soap and water will do. All we are doing is removing dust, crumbs and such.

Quick wipe down of bathroom surfaces with a disinfectant. Sink, counters and toilet is all, takes about 2 minutes or less. The bathroom will thank you!

Wipe up kitchen & other spills as they happen.

Go over floors at least every other day using a dust mop (or whatever you clean the floor with). Do a quick "sweep" of the open areas. We are only removing the debris tracked in, right now we are not concerned with getting under items or mopping (remember, we cleaned spills as they happened).

Hire a maid service (like us!) to come in for the heavy cleaning (tubs, stove tops, detail floors etc.) at least every other week, more often if you have more children or pets.

That takes care of making sure your home is ready, now what about you?

Keep your clothes on. During the holiday season, don't change into your "wouldn't be caught dead in this outfit" when you get home from work. If you must change, keep it with something you would wear in public. Let's face it, those holy sweatpants are comfy, but look horrid!

Buy and wrap a few generic items for those unexpected visitors that come with unexpected gifts.Nothing is more embarrassing than receiving and having to pull a present meant for your Mom out from under the tree. Gift cards, stationary, picture frames and baked goodies are always winners.

Keep drinks and appetizers on hand. These don't need to be expensive or take a lot of time. A few sodas and nuts in the pantry will suffice.

Keep away those late night visitors by turning out the porch lights and closing the curtains. Most will get the message that you really don't want company. Nothing says you're not welcome here than a dark house! Oh, you can put on those holy sweatpants now!

See, just a little prep work and you (and your home) will always be prepared to welcome visitors, unexpected or not, with open arms. Who knows, by doing just these few things some new habits could blossom!

770.468.9475 info@SqueakyCleanInc.org

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

holiday shopping contest

Share your shopping with us on Facebook! Tell us about your most stressful, or most hilarious shopping trip this holiday season. The weather is beautiful, the flowers blooming, and icky greenish clouds of pollen can be seen from a distance. You all know what I'm talking about, especially when we don't any rain to help wash away the blanket of pollen that settles on everything!

Keeping that pollen out of your home can be almost impossible, I've got some tips to help with that.

Keep windows closed in the home and the air conditioning or fans on.

Change your air conditioning filters regularly to allow for reduced pollen particles in your home.

Shower before bed or wash up well to remove any pollen from your hair, skin and face.

Give your Fido and Kitty a bath regularly as they can track the pollen into the home and move it around. Pet hair attracts pollen easily.

Dust and dust often with a good micro-fiber cloth that is slightly damp to absorb as much pollen as possible.

Vacuum carpets often with a strong HEPA vacuum. Consider vacuuming hard floor surfaces regularly as well. Daily vacuum by your entrances and wash doormats often.

Purchase a good Air Purifier. Even a low cost purifier like the Thermax Air Purifier for under $30 works great. The water captures everything and the purifier is cheap enough to place in all bedrooms.

Wash clothes immediately after being outdoors when the pollen count is high.

Giving your home a good Spring cleaning, (or as we call them Deep Squeaks) once the pollen season is over, well help rid the hidden pollen that's hiding behind and under items. I know, who has time for a super duper deep cleaning right? That where a great maid company comes in!

Proudly serving the Griffin/Spalding county GA for 22 years
770.468.9475

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

Spring Cleaning Tips-kitchen-oven

When was the last time your oven was cleaned? I know, who has time between work, kids, and life. Simple, just push the self cleaning button and it's done right? Only if you don't mind using all that electricity or gas, heating up your kitchen to unbearable temps, or actually like the smell the self cleaning ovens create. And it really doesn't get it all clean! There are easier and eco-friendly ways, that don't tie up your oven, or you all day!
We call it the quick down and dirty method, but don't let the name scare you, it's really simple! In no time your oven can be Squeaky Clean!

You'll need;

puppy pee-pee pads (to protect your floor, you know, the ones with absorbent top layer, plastic type bottom layer)
white vinegar in a spray bottle
baking soda
putty knife/scrapers
razor blades
heavy duty scrubbers or steel wool
cloths

Quick, down and dirty method;
Pre heat oven to 175, then let cool to the touch. Remove the oven racks to the bathtub. It's much easier to these in the tub than the kitchen sink, especially for rinsing. Go ahead and scrap with putty knife/scrapers to remove large debris, now go over with steel wool. Rinse with warm water. Spray the racks with vinegar then sprinkle baking soda over them. Don't get to mesmerized by watching the chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda, we have a job to do!

Attack the interior of the oven with a scraper/razor blades and remove loosened debris. Place the puppy pads in front of oven, gotta protect the floors! Now spray vinegar, and apply baking soda on spots and let sit. Grab a quick cup of coffee, or go ahead and do the cook top while waiting. Grab your scrubbers or steel wool and using good ole' fashioned elbow grease, scrub scrub scrub! Wipe out with damp clothes following with a final rinse with a clean cloth. Don't forget that bottom broiler/drawer, usually the whole thing can come right out for cleaning. Do the same with the racks sitting in the tub, rinsing with the shower or a cup filled from faucet in tub.

Before putting the oven back together, go ahead an pull out to get behind. Clean sides of oven, cabinets, wall, and floor with warm soapy water. Scrape with scrapper the heavy stuck on grime. Don't forget the edges of the counter tops. Replace the oven, and put back together. All done!

HINT; Wiping out spills as soon as possible will help to keep the oven clean all the time!

How many times have you been attacked by the tupperware when you open the kitchen cabinet? If more times than not, it time for some purging and cleaning.
Don't fret, following some simple guidelines will make easy and quick work of the task!

Remember those bins used in the de-clutter post? Grab them again,a "keep" bin, "give away", and 'storage' bin. Don't forget the trash/recycling bin and the timer!

Start with the easiest cabinet first, usually the cook ware or dishes cabinet. Set the timer for 15 minutes, and GO - work quickly! Pull all items out, placing duplicates that aren’t used in “give away’ bin, broken, or un-repairable items in “trash/recycling” bin. Keeps in "keep" bin. Keep in mind, that you probably need to downsize your amount of items to keep a neat and orderly cabinet. Stop and think prior to placing items back in cabinet "Do I really NEED this, when was the last time I used it?" If it is an item you don't use or haven't used in over a year, odds are, it's safe to go. But, what about Grandma's old iron skillet? If you don't use it, but can't bear the thought of parting with it, place in storage. That way, you still have it, but it isn't taking up valuable space.

Now that all items are out and in proper bins, wipe out those cabinets. A solution of with warm water, natural dish soap, and some drops of your favorite essential oil or vinegar will make for some great smelling cabinets!

Place items back in according to size and usage. Plates used daily, on eye level shelf, plates used less often, on top or bottom shelves. Organize cookware with inexpensive shelving made for cookware, or simply organize by size. Repeat same process with Tupperware, pantry, and drawers. Before you know it, the kitchen will be organized, and Squeaky Clean.

*QUICK TIP*

Many stores carry some great organizing items for the kitchen that can be very inexpensive. Think outside of the box when buying organizing tools, a desk drawer organizer for the junk drawer, shelving meant for a closet can be used inside the cabinets for extra space.

Having a clean and organized kitchen will bring the joy back into cooking!

Proudly serving the Griffin/Spalding county, GA area.

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring Clean Time-Assignment #1

We are going to begin spring cleaning. Ready to join me? Let's talk about your first cleaning assignment! As a cleaning service it is hard for us to actually "clean" your home unless you have picked up all that clutter prior to our arrival. By the way .. this is a fun way to get kids to help too!

You’ll need;

* two bins (laundry baskets or boxes work perfect!)

*timer (microwave, oven timers are great)

Pick one room. Set the timer for 5 minutes. First five minutes you do nothing but put everything in that bin that does NOT belong in the room. This is not garbage, this is stuff that has collected here that belongs somewhere else. ONLY FIVE MINUTES AND GO FAST! No thinking .. just pick it up.

Ok .. second 5 minutes. Grab that second bin ... set the timer ... collect all the trash .. newspapers, pop cans, you name it -- old knick knack. GARBAGE -- no thinking .. if your first impulse was that it is garbage.. it is ; )

Now the last part of this is VERY important. Set the timer again for 5 minutes and now put everything in those bins away! Trash -- and it's home. You will be surprised at how fast this goes if you focus on the five minutes.

Continue this five minute exercise with this room until you have it uncluttered. You can un clutter an entire home in a short period with this process.

Done with that room? room #2... GO!

I would love before and after pics... the best unclutter job? I would guess there is a prize in there... it is Squeaky Clean! ; )

Stay tuned next week for spring cleaning tip #2... time to get dirty!

Visit us at http://SqueakyCleanInc.org or give us a call at 770.468.9475

And really, do want others seeing your dirty underwear?

*put away valuables; money, jewelry, small techie gadgets.
More than likely, nothing will ever happen to those items, as a company, anyone working for them has had background checks, and are very trustworthy, or else they wouldn’t be in your home. Having these items out in the open can make the crew assigned to your home very uncomfortable. Err on the side of caution, it’s much easier!

*entry; if you leave a door unlocked, or hide a key make sure this done before leaving for the day.
While this method is HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED for your safety and the cleaning crew, if that is the agreement between you and the service provider, then so be it. Just remember, a locked home can’t be cleaned! Most companies do have extra fee’s for this situation, and it could take weeks to get back on schedule.

*leave payment; some companies will leave an envelope for payment, others don’t.
What ever your payment agreement is, do make sure to follow, to avoid extra fees, or worse, your home not being cleaned at all. A real bummer when you have been at work all day, excited to come home to a clean home that wasn’t serviced at all!

*put away pets; put them in a kennel, garage, or yard, especially if they are known to bite!
Check with your providers policy concerning pets, and make sure if you insist on keeping the pets loose in the home that the provider knows if Spot is allowed out or not!
Personally, we love pets, but they do have a tendency to get in the way. While fun, the first few times, a playful kitty attacking dusters and bed linens while trying to work becomes aggravating quickly. Not to mention the doggie that likes to leave his paw prints on the just mopped floors!

*vacuum cleaner/equipment; here again, different strokes for different folks or companies rather.
If the service provider uses your vacuum, or any of your equipment, make sure it is in working order prior to service. Keep belts/bags in same location and make the maid service aware of their location.

It doesn’t take much to prepare for the cleaners, good ole’ common sense goes a long way in this area. Remember that communication is the key!

Squeaky Clean proudly services the Griffin/Spalding county area in GA.
contact us SqueakyCleanInc.org Info@SqueakyCleanInc.org

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

7 Tips to keep a clean and tidy work area

Your office; Did I just hear a collective sigh from the masses? How many times did you come in to work after the cleaning service was there only to find that, once again, your desk area wasn’t touched? Instead of getting in a huff and complaining to your boss, try these tips to get your desk organized and cleaned the next time they come in.

1. Put away, or at least stack neatly, papers onto a corner of the desk, or even better, put away in a drawer.

2. Scale down your personal items. We all do think your kids are the cutest in the world, but honestly having more than 3 pictures becomes redundant, not to mention making for a very cluttered desk.

3. Knick knacks, you know you have them, we all do. Here again, keep a limit on these items in your office, this is a place of business, not your living room!

4. Always put away important paperwork!

5. Put away the wide assortment of pencils and pens, and other items scattered across your desk.

6. Make sure you are ringing the trash can when disposing of items. If your not, move the trash can!

7. Keep a bottle of disinfectant handy. Wipe the phone receiver, key pad, keyboard, mouse and other frequently touched items frequently.

Most cleaning company’s have guidelines concerning cleaning of paper cluttered desk tops, and that is to not touch the papers. If not a glimpse of the desk top can be seen, guess what, there is nothing the cleaning company can do with it! If you follow the steps above, and your desk top still isn’t being cleaned, by all means, get in huff!

Your a virgin maid service recipient and have no idea what to do! While this short list isn't about what to do in your home prior to service (that post will be next) this one is all about communicating with the company. Sounds pretty "Duh" right, you'd be surprised the number of times improper communication happens.

Do's;
*Contact the company through proper means. Usually this information will be provided, office phone, email. If you aren't sure, give them a call and ask.
*Let them know how they did. A little appreciation goes a long way towards boosting moral.
*Direct questions/comments/concerns to the proper person. Leaving notes or talking with the wrong person about your account can cause confusion, not to mention the message never being received to the right person. If you are not sure who to talk to, ask!
*Participate in events the company is holding. A lot of thought and time go into planning these events, client participation is needed to make them successful. More than likely, you'll have fun anyway!
*Talk them up to your friends and family. Word of Mouth is the best advertising! Many companies have a referral program where you earn free or discounted cleanings, recommend one if your provider doesn't have one!
*Make sure you understand their policy and fees. Keeping everyone on the same page makes for a successful relationship between you and your service provider. Don't be afraid to ask questions either.

Don'ts;
*Contact your company by posting questions/comments about your service on their personal social sites like FaceBook or twitter. Personal is personal, business is business. While many of my clients are my friends on these sites, it's not the proper outlet to talk business.
*Wait to make a complaint. While no one likes to hear a complaint, waiting to make one is worse. Most companies do have policies in place for amending problems in a timely manner.
*Ask them to do more than pre-agreed at the last minute. Maid service schedules can run tight, and while most request are easily granted, to prevent confusion within the team, always contact the company at least 48 hours prior to service to talk about add on's so that time can be scheduled accordingly.
*Talk with team members about important account information. Usually team members are trained to do the cleaning and do not know all the details of your account.

While very limited, these is a general outline when dealing with a service provider. Of course, each company is different and will have different methods and a different policy, making sure those methods and/or policy is understand and followed goes a long way to a long, happy relationship!

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

test

testing blog

copyright 2007-2014 SqueakyCleanInc

Welcome

Welcome to my blog.
